The first Perry Outreach Program was held in the summer of 2009 at San Francisco General Hospital in San Francisco, California. The program was held on four consecutive Saturdays, and 15 students from Bay Area public high schools participated. Faculty from University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), spoke at each day of the program, and volunteers from UCSF, UC Berkeley, and San Francisco General Hospital staffed the event.
