Date: December 10, 2012
Location: The Charter School of Wilmington
Students: ~36 coed students
Faculty: Jenni Buckley, PhD, University of Delaware, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Dr. Buckley and the University of Delaware’s Mechanical Engineering Student Squad (MESS) visited Dr. Fleetwood’s Anatomy class to introduce students to exciting careers in engineering and medicine using Perry Initiative curriculum. Students heard from Dr. Buckley about her career path and research in Orthopaedic Biomechanics, and then they got to experience orthopaedics for themselves by assembling an external fixator on a model of the lower leg, designing an intermedullary nail, and more!
The Perry Initiative thanks the MESS for bringing our curriculum into the classroom! Without collaborations like these, the Perry Initiative would not have the staff or ability to bring programing into Delaware Area classrooms. We look forward to working with UD’s MESS in the future.
