Hands-on Workshops

The Perry Initiative is committed to inspiring young women to be leaders in the fields of orthopaedic surgery and engineering, two fields in which women are drastically under-represented. Both of these fields require extensive education, and we specifically target high school and medical school, two critical junctures along the career pathway.

Perry Outreach Program

The Perry Initiative partners with medical centers, universities, and high schools to host Perry Outreach Programs for high school students. These day-long programs are held at over 45 locations nationwide throughout the year, and we encourage young women and all gender identities to apply. Participants perform mock orthopaedic surgeries and conduct biomechanical engineering experiments, while also hearing from prominent women engineers and surgeons in the field.

Medical Student Outreach Program

The Perry Initiative Medical Student Outreach Programs are hosted by medical schools and connect medical students to orthopaedic surgeon mentors and like-minded peers, as well as introduce fracture fixation techniques and power tools. We hold over 25 Medical Student Outreach Programs annually across the country.
